Implant Retained Bridge in Cheshire

Replace two or three consecutive missing teeth with a fixed, permanent bridge anchored by two dental implants. No removable parts, no adhesives, and no impact on the healthy teeth around it.

When You Are Missing More Than One Tooth But Do Not Need a Full Arch Solution

Not everyone who comes to Heritage Smile Group is missing a full arch of teeth. Some of our patients are missing two or three consecutive teeth in one area and want a permanent, fixed solution that fits naturally into their existing smile without affecting the healthy teeth around it.

An implant retained bridge is designed precisely for this situation.

Two implants are placed into the jawbone at either end of the gap. A bridge of two or three teeth is then secured permanently across those implants. The result is a fixed restoration that does not rely on the adjacent natural teeth for support, preserves the jawbone beneath the gap, and looks and functions like your own teeth.

All implant retained bridges at Heritage Smile Group are placed and restored personally by Dr Nikhil Oberai, whose MSc in Implant Dentistry from the University of Manchester and 99.5% success rate across hundreds of cases make him one of the most experienced implant clinicians in Cheshire.

How an Implant Retained Bridge Works

An implant retained bridge combines two dental implants with a fixed prosthetic bridge to replace a span of two or three consecutive missing teeth. Understanding the difference between this and a conventional tooth-supported bridge helps to explain why implants represent the better long-term solution.

  • Two Implants

A titanium implant is placed surgically into the jawbone at each end of the gap. Over three to four months these implants integrate with the bone through a process called osseointegration, creating stable, permanent anchors that function as artificial tooth roots. The bone is stimulated and preserved in the same way it would be by natural tooth roots.

  • The Bridge

Once integration is complete, a custom-designed bridge of two or three teeth is secured to the implants using abutment connectors. The bridge is crafted from high-quality ceramic, colour-matched to your surrounding teeth, and fitted permanently in place. It does not come out.

  • The Result:

A fixed, stable restoration that looks completely natural, functions exactly like your own teeth, and requires no more care than brushing and flossing as you normally would. Most patients describe the finished result as indistinguishable from their natural teeth.

Why an Implant Retained Bridge Is the Better Long-Term Choice

A conventional tooth-supported bridge is an alternative that some patients consider. It works by crowning the healthy teeth on either side of the gap and suspending a false tooth between them. It is a well-established treatment with a long track record, but it comes with trade-offs that an implant retained bridge avoids entirely.

The key distinction is that a conventional bridge requires permanently altering two healthy teeth that had nothing wrong with them. Once those teeth are ground down, that cannot be undone. An implant retained bridge leaves those teeth entirely untouched.

An Implant Retained Bridge May Be Right for You If You Are

Missing two or three consecutive teeth

An implant retained bridge is specifically designed for patients with a span of two or three missing teeth in the same area of the mouth. If you are missing more than three consecutive teeth, a different implant solution such as a full arch or a longer span bridge may be more appropriate. Dr Nik will assess your individual situation and recommend the right approach.

Looking for a permanent fixed solution

If you want a restoration that you do not need to think about, remove, or maintain differently to your natural teeth, an implant retained bridge delivers exactly that. Once in place, it simply becomes part of your smile.

Wanting to preserve your healthy adjacent teeth

If the teeth on either side of your gap are healthy and you want to keep them that way, an implant retained bridge is the only fixed solution that allows you to do that. It anchors entirely within the implants rather than relying on those teeth at all.

Concerned about bone loss in the gap

Every month a tooth is missing, the bone beneath it continues to resorb. An implant retained bridge addresses this because the implants act as artificial roots, stimulating the bone and preventing the progressive bone loss that occurs when a gap is left unfilled or filled with a conventional bridge.

Currently managing the gap with a partial denture

If you are using a partial denture to manage a gap of two or three teeth and finding it inconvenient, uncomfortable, or simply not the long-term solution you were hoping for, an implant retained bridge gives you a permanent fixed alternative.

Your Implant Retained Bridge Journey, Step by Step

Free Consultation

Your journey begins with a free, thorough consultation with Dr Nik. He will assess the gap, the bone volume at the implant sites, the health of your surrounding teeth and gums, and your overall suitability for treatment. You will leave with a clear treatment plan, a confirmed cost, and answers to every question you have. There is no obligation to proceed.

Treatment Planning

Once you have decided to go ahead, detailed clinical records including x-rays and 3D imaging where required are used to plan the precise position of both implants. Good planning at this stage is what produces a predictable, excellent result.

Implant Placement

Both implants are placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic in a single surgical appointment. A temporary restoration may be placed during the healing period. The procedure is typically straightforward and most patients return to normal activity the following day.

Healing and Integration

Over the following three to four months, the implants integrate with the surrounding bone. Dr Nik will see you for review appointments during this period to monitor progress and ensure healing is proceeding as expected.

Bridge Fitting

Once integration is confirmed, impressions or digital scans are taken and your custom bridge is designed and manufactured. At your final appointment, Dr Nik fits the bridge, checks the bite and appearance carefully, and secures it permanently in place. The treatment is complete.

Ongoing Care

Your implant retained bridge is cared for like natural teeth. Brush twice daily, use interdental cleaning aids to clean beneath the bridge, and attend your routine check-up and hygiene appointments. With proper care, the implants beneath are designed to last a lifetime.

I have recently completed my dental implant journey with Nikhil, and for someone who finds visiting the dentist a challenge, even without throwing in dental implant surgery, all I can say is my experience has been a truly positive one.

From my initial enquiry with Louise, where she was warm, friendly and reassuring, to my first appointment with Nikhil, and his amazing dental nurse, to discuss my options. I was always put at ease, and always given the time to ask any questions I may have. Even if I didn’t ask them at the time, it was nice to know I could send a quick WhatsApp and receive a response almost immediately. Even if just for a little reassurance (especially in the early days).

It’s been 5 days since I had my crown fitted, and I couldn’t be happier, it feels so natural and has been completely pain free!

Genuinely, thank you for making my experience a positive one. All the team are a huge asset to the practice.

Questions Patients Ask About Implant Retained Bridges

An implant retained bridge supported by two implants can typically replace two or three consecutive missing teeth. For larger spans of missing teeth, a different solution may be recommended. Dr Nik will assess the number and position of your missing teeth at your consultation and advise on the most appropriate option.

Bone loss at the implant sites does not automatically rule out an implant retained bridge. The extent and location of the bone loss matters, and Dr Nik will assess this thoroughly using x-rays and clinical examination. In some cases a bone graft may be recommended to build up the site. In others, sufficient bone remains for placement without any additional procedure.

The implants themselves are designed to last a lifetime with proper care. The bridge on top is highly durable but may, over many years, require maintenance or replacement depending on wear and individual factors. Your long-term outcome is strongly influenced by oral hygiene, lifestyle, and regular attendance for check-ups and hygiene appointments.

Yes, the upfront cost of an implant retained bridge is higher than a conventional tooth-supported bridge. However, the implant option preserves your healthy adjacent teeth and the bone beneath the gap, and the implants themselves are designed to be a lifelong investment. Over the long term, the overall cost difference is often less significant than it appears when comparing upfront costs alone.

A denture is removable. An implant retained bridge is permanently fixed in place and does not come out. It does not require adhesive to hold it in position, does not need to be removed for cleaning, and feels far more like natural teeth in function and everyday use. For patients who are currently managing missing teeth with a partial denture, an implant retained bridge is a significantly more comfortable and convenient long-term solution.

Yes. Your bridge is custom-designed and manufactured from high-quality ceramic, colour-matched to your surrounding teeth. Dr Nik takes care at the fitting stage to ensure the shape, colour, and bite are all exactly right before the bridge is permanently secured. The finished result is designed to be indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
