The Treatment That Should Look Like Nothing Has Been Done
The best anti-wrinkle treatment is the kind nobody notices. Not because it has not worked, but because it has worked so well that the result simply looks like you, at your best, well-rested and refreshed. Not frozen, not pulled, not obviously treated. Just better.
That is the standard we hold every anti-wrinkle treatment to at Heritage Smile Group. The goal is never to eliminate all movement or to make the face look younger in an obvious or artificial way. It is to soften the lines that have developed over time from repeated expressions, to reduce the tension that makes a relaxed face look tired or tense, and to restore a lightness to the upper face that most patients did not realise they had lost.
Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most requested treatments we offer alongside cosmetic dentistry, and it is easy to understand why the combination works so well. A brighter, straighter, or more complete smile changes how the mouth looks. Softening the lines around the eyes and forehead changes how the whole face looks. Together they produce a result that is greater than the sum of its parts.
At Heritage Smile Group, all facial aesthetics treatments, including anti-wrinkle injections, are administered by qualified dental clinicians whose training is grounded in the detailed anatomy of the face.
How Anti-Wrinkle Injections Work
Anti-wrinkle injections use a purified protein derived from botulinum toxin that, when injected in small, precise amounts into specific facial muscles, temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. The lines and wrinkles that develop in those areas are caused not by damage to the skin itself but by the repeated contraction of the underlying muscles over many years of expression. By reducing that muscle activity, the overlying skin is allowed to smooth and the lines to soften.
The treatment is quick, typically taking between fifteen and thirty minutes depending on the areas being treated. It involves a series of very small injections using a fine needle, and most patients find it entirely manageable with no anaesthetic required. Any minor redness or tenderness at the injection sites will usually resolve within a few hours.
The full effect builds gradually over the following seven to fourteen days as the muscle activity reduces. Results typically last between three and four months initially, with many patients finding the duration extends over time with repeated treatments.
The protein is completely metabolised by the body over this period and the effects wear off naturally. There is no permanent change to the muscles or the skin, and treatment can be stopped at any time without any lasting effect.

The Areas Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Addresses
Anti-wrinkle injections can be used across a range of areas of the face. The most commonly treated areas at Heritage Smile Group are listed below. At your consultation, the clinician will assess which areas are appropriate for your individual face and goals and will recommend only what is genuinely needed.
Frown Lines
The vertical lines between the eyebrows.
Frown lines, sometimes called 'the elevens', develop from repeated contraction of the muscles between the brows. They are often one of the first concerns patients raise because even when the face is completely relaxed, deep frown lines can give the appearance of irritation, concentration, or displeasure. Softening them with a conservative treatment creates a more open, relaxed appearance in the upper face without affecting the ability to express emotion naturally.
Forehead Lines
The horizontal lines across the forehead.
Forehead lines develop from the repeated raising of the eyebrows over many years. Treatment in this area requires particular care to balance the softening of the lines with the preservation of natural forehead movement. Overtreating the forehead can cause brow ptosis (drooping of the brow), which is why a conservative and experienced approach to this area is so important. Our aim is softer lines with natural movement preserved throughout.
Crow's Feet
The fine lines radiating from the outer corners of the eyes.
Crow's feet are one of the most common early concerns for patients, developing from the repeated squinting and smiling expressions that are simply part of living an expressive life. They tend to become more visible in photographs and in certain lighting conditions. Treatment in this area softens the lines while preserving the natural movement that makes the eyes look alive and engaged.
Bunny Lines
The diagonal lines on the sides of the nose.
Bunny lines are the small creases that appear on the sides of the nose when smiling or scrunching. They are sometimes a secondary result of treatment in other areas and can be addressed directly with a small amount of product placed precisely at the nasalis muscle. This is a subtle treatment area that can contribute meaningfully to the overall appearance of the mid-face.
Brow Lift
A subtle lift to the outer portion of the brow.
A carefully placed treatment at the lateral brow can create a gentle lift that opens the eye area, reducing the heaviness that can develop in the upper face over time. The effect is subtle rather than dramatic and is designed to restore a more youthful, open appearance to the upper face without any surgical appearance.
Jaw Slimming
Reducing the appearance of a square jaw and relieving grinding.
Injections into the masseter muscle, the large chewing muscle that sits at the angle of the lower jaw, can reduce the bulk of this muscle over several months, creating a softer, more tapered jawline. This treatment can also provide meaningful relief for patients who grind their teeth (bruxism), by reducing the activity of the masseter and relieving associated tension and discomfort.
Gummy Smile
Reducing the amount of gum visible when smiling.
Some patients experience excessive gingival display (commonly referred to as a gummy smile), where a significant amount of gum tissue is visible above the upper teeth when smiling. This can affect confidence and is one of the concerns patients raise most frequently when discussing their smile. A small amount of product placed at the muscle responsible for lifting the upper lip reduces the upward movement of the lip on smiling, revealing less gum and more teeth. The effect is specific and the treatment is quick, with results that can make a real difference for patients who have always been self-conscious about their smile.
Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)
Reducing excessive sweating in the underarm area.
Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to address hyperhidrosis, the medical term for excessive sweating, by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that activate the sweat glands. Treatment is most commonly applied in the underarm area and can significantly reduce sweating for a period of six to twelve months. For patients whose quality of life is affected by excessive sweating, this treatment can make a meaningful practical difference. reatment is subject to a clinical consultation and prescriber assessment.
- What to Expect
What Happens at Your Anti-Wrinkle Appointment
Consultation
Before any treatment is administered, a thorough consultation takes place. The clinician assesses your face, listens to your concerns and goals, and recommends only the treatment that is genuinely appropriate for your situation. The clinician will review any relevant medical history with you. You will receive a clear explanation of what the treatment involves, what the expected result looks like, and what the recovery period is. There is no obligation to proceed and no pressure on the day.
Treatment
The treatment itself typically takes between fifteen and thirty minutes. The skin is cleaned and the injections are administered using a fine needle at the agreed treatment sites. Most patients find the sensation mild and entirely manageable without any topical anaesthetic, though this is available on request if preferred.
Immediately After
You can return to normal activities immediately after treatment. Minor redness or small marks at the injection sites may be visible for a few hours but usually resolve the same day. We advise avoiding vigorous exercise, alcohol, and direct heat such as saunas for 24 hours following treatment. Please also avoid touching or rubbing the treated areas during this time.
The Results Build
The full effect of anti-wrinkle treatment develops over seven to fourteen days as the muscle activity gradually reduces. Most patients notice a difference within three to five days and the final settled result is visible at two weeks.
Two-Week Review
A review appointment is included for all new patients at two weeks following treatment. This allows the clinician to assess the result, check for any asymmetry, and make any minor adjustments where needed. It is also an opportunity to discuss whether any additional areas would benefit from a small amount of product at this stage.
Maintenance
Results typically last three to four months initially. As you approach the end of this period, the muscle activity and lines will gradually return. Many patients find that with repeated treatments the results last slightly longer over time. A straightforward maintenance appointment at the same interval is all that is needed to sustain your result.
- Frequently Asked Questions
Questions Patients Ask About Anti-Wrinkle Treatments
Is anti-wrinkle treatment painful?
Most patients find anti-wrinkle injections very manageable. The needle used is very fine and the injections are small and targeted. Some areas, particularly around the eyes, are slightly more sensitive than others. Most patients describe the sensation as a small pinch rather than pain. Topical anaesthetic cream is available on request for patients who are particularly concerned about discomfort, but the majority of patients do not need it.
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment itself typically takes between fifteen and thirty minutes depending on the number of areas being treated. Including a brief pre-treatment check and aftercare advice, most appointments are completed within forty-five minutes to an hour.
When will I see results?
The full effect of anti-wrinkle treatment builds over seven to fourteen days as the muscle activity gradually reduces. Most patients notice an initial difference within three to five days. The final settled result is assessed at the two-week review appointment.
How often do I need to come back?
Results typically last three to four months initially. Many patients schedule maintenance appointments at three to four monthly intervals to sustain the result. With repeated treatments over time, many patients find the results last slightly longer as the muscle activity in the treated areas gradually reduces.
Can anti-wrinkle treatment be reversed?
Anti-wrinkle injections wear off naturally as the protein is metabolised by the body. Unlike dermal fillers, the effects of botulinum toxin injections cannot be reversed before the protein is naturally metabolised. The results simply reduce gradually over three to four months. The results simply reduce gradually over three to four months until the muscle activity returns fully. This is one reason why starting conservatively is sensible, as a more moderate result that wears off naturally is always preferable to an overcorrected one.
What is the difference between anti-wrinkle treatment and dermal fillers?
Anti-wrinkle injections work by reducing the muscle activity that causes dynamic wrinkles, the lines that develop from repeated expressions. Dermal fillers add volume beneath the skin to restore fullness that has been lost or to define specific features. The two treatments address different concerns and are often used together as part of a comprehensive facial aesthetics plan. Dr Natasja will advise on the most appropriate option or combination for your individual situation at your consultation.
Can I have anti-wrinkle treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Anti-wrinkle treatments are contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding and will not be administered under these circumstances. We will always ask about pregnancy status at your consultation and treatment will not be administered if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Is there a minimum age for anti-wrinkle treatment?
Anti-wrinkle treatments at Heritage Smile Group are available to patients aged 18 and over. We do not administer facial aesthetics treatments to patients under 18 under any circumstances.
What should I avoid after treatment?
In the 24 hours following treatment, avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol, direct heat such as saunas or hot baths, and touching or rubbing the treated areas. Wear sunscreen to protect the treated areas from UV exposure in the days following treatment. Remaining upright for at least four hours following treatment is advisable to help ensure the product is retained in the intended position.
