What to Expect at Your Invisalign Appointment

Step 1: We assess your teeth

Dr Natasja will examine your teeth, discuss your concerns and goals, and assess which Invisalign option is most appropriate for your case. If i7 is sufficient for your needs, she’ll tell you. If Full treatment is needed, she’ll explain exactly why.

Step 2: We take a 3D digital scan

If you decide to proceed, a digital intraoral scan of your teeth is taken. No messy impressions. The scan is submitted to Invisalign who plan the full sequence of tooth movements.

Step 3: You review your ClinCheck

Before your aligners are manufactured, you review the digital simulation of your planned outcome with Dr Natasja. You see where your teeth are going before you commit to anything.

Step 4: You decide in your own time

Your confirmed cost is provided in writing. There is no pressure to proceed on the day and no deadline to decide. Many patients go away, think it over, and come back when they are ready.

How long does Invisalign take?

It depends on the case. Invisalign i7 for very minor corrections takes as little as 3 months. Invisalign Lite for minor to moderate cases typically takes around 6.5 months. Invisalign Full for more comprehensive cases usually takes between 12 and 24 months. We will give you a realistic timeline at your free smile assessment following clinical examination.

Is Invisalign painful?

Invisalign is not painful in the way that fixed braces can be. Some patients notice mild pressure or tenderness for a day or two when progressing to a new aligner, which is a normal sign that the teeth are moving. This settles quickly and most patients describe the overall experience as very comfortable.

Can I eat and drink normally during Invisalign treatment?

Yes. The aligners are removed for eating and drinking anything other than plain water, so there are no food restrictions. Remove the aligners, eat normally, brush your teeth, and reinsert. The aligners need to be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day, so they go back in as soon as possible after eating.

Will Invisalign affect my speech?

Some patients notice a very slight awareness of the aligners when speaking in the first few days of a new set. This resolves quickly as the mouth adapts and most patients find it disappears entirely within a day or two.

Do I need retainers after Invisalign?

Yes, always. Without retainers, teeth have a natural tendency to drift back towards their original positions. Vivera retainers, made by Invisalign and at least 30% more durable than standard clear retainers, are available at Heritage Smile Group for £400 for a full set across both arches. Retainer wear is essential to protect your result long term.
